What is hCG?

Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), is a naturally occurring substance (polypeptide hormone) that is produced in pregnant women. During pregnancy, this substance allows the body to mobilize fat and use it as energy for both the mother and the growing fetus.   It has been used in modern medicine safely since the 1950’s and is derived from the placentas of pregnant women and reconstituted in a sterile fashion for pharmaceutical uses. HCG is used in the medical field to treat a variety of medical conditions, and is widely used as a medical treatment for obesity in both women and men.

How does hCG work in a weight loss protocol?

The use of hCG in the treatment of obesity was first discovered by the late British endocrinologist, Dr. A.T.W. Simeons.  While studying pregnant women in India on a calorie-deficient diet, and obese male adolescents with pituitary problems, all treated with low-dose hCG, Simeons’ discovered that both groups of patients lost fat rather than lean muscle tissue. He reasoned that hCG must be programming the hypothalamus to do this in the pregnancy cases in order to protect the developing fetus, and proceeded to use low-dose daily hCG injections (12.5 units) in Appetite Suppressant combination with a customized ultra-low-calorie (500 cal/day, high-protein, low-carbohydrate/fat) diet to help obese adults lose dramatic amounts of adipose tissue without loss of lean tissue.

During this time, Dr. Simeons noticed several important ancillary factors of the medical treatment, including the lack of symptoms one would expect from a patient on a very low calorie diet. For example, his patients had no headaches, hunger pains, weakness, or irritability as long as the low calorie diet was combined with hCG.

HCG is believed to trigger the hypothalamic lean-protection mechanisms, thus promoting mobilization and consumption of abnormal, excessive adipose deposits, while protecting normal adipose and lean tissue from being consumed. These protective hypothalamic mechanisms exist in males as well as females, to be acted upon by hCG

When exercising or restricting food intake, the body relies on and consumes the normal fat reserves. The body cannot access the abnormal fat accumulations. The use of the HCG hormone releases abnormal fat deposits and makes the fat available for consumption by the body.

What are the typical results?

Most calorie counters know that one pound of fat is equivalent to 3,500 calories. Because the HCG hormone makes the abnormal fat available, the body begins living off the fat – the fat provides a source of energy, just as food does. Patients are instructed to reduce food to 500 calories per day, however, hunger is not noticed because 3,500 additional calories are consumed each day by the body. The results: patients lose about one pound per day while using the HCG hormone.
